Flower Girl
10.75" x 5" x 4" ; base 5"dx1"h || Bronze || Edition of 12
Flower Girl is a standing single figure of a woman who is, obviously, in the process of picking flowers in her garden. She is in the moment of a summer breeze catching her, her clothes, and her wide brimmed hat. She looks up, pulls the bouquet to her breast. This work is full of action, and yet it is peaceful and tranquil. She is full of life and filled with the joy and tranquility of being in this moment. Flower Girl started as a study of wind on clothes, and, perhaps a maquette for a larger sculpture for a garden. It ended up being a work unto itself that I am really quite fond of. The subject may be a little sweeter and a bit more common than my typical work, but somehow, it doesn't feel that way to me. I find the expression of wind that I achieved quite moving.
