Forces
It should be considered to be one of the Museum’s educational exhibits as it tells the story of humankind’s exploration of and understanding of the forces of the universe. This can be a self-guided experience, but it would be enhanced by a teacher or docent expanding upon the subtler aspects of the story and symbols. I would be happy to work with the Museum in the development of a Guide.
“Forces”: Overview of key elements
All the elements of this artwork work together as a synergistic whole, but let me quickly review the key elements:
The bronze figure is of a heroic scale (if he were standing straight, he’d be over 8' tall). He is in motion of spinning a fractal form stainless steel ring.
The ring will be stainless-steel about 15 feet in diameter and may not be exactly as shown. But it would be reminiscent of it, unless the museum has something specific in mind.
The Cone upon which the bronze figure stands is a stone clad inverted cone 9 feet high, 9 feet in diameter at the top and 4.5 feet in diameter at the base.
The Spiral Path will be made of paver brick. It will measure about 47 feet in diameter, with the path being about 5 feet across. The 6-inch gap between the path will be filled with a short vertical species of grass and commercial path lighting if needed.
The twelve columns along the Spiral Path will hold iconic symbols of the forces of nature: representing a timeline walk through human understanding of the “forces” known to humankind. Each column is 42 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter. Set on top of eleven columns are a symbolic representation of each “force”. Each will be fabricated in bronze and/or steel or other durable material and be approximately 15" wide by 18" high. Each column will have a plaque describing the specific force referenced by the icon. The final column will be left empty to represent future discoveries.
