The Four Elements (Ether Series) is another expression of the ancient four elements of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. This series was made with my technique of pinching a warm wax "Tootsie Roll" from head to toe while improvising as I went. However, I did have some expectations for the four figures. In some ancient systems there is a fifth element, Ether: that exists within and between the other four. Ether is unmanifest while the other four are manifest. Through my experience with "Turning" I saw the opportunity to form the four basic manifest elements out of the unmanifested soft wax and leave the unmanifested waxes as elements of sculptu
I see an opportunity to present these four elements as freestanding pieces aranged as the collector. Or, purchased intividually. I have also mounted a set on a single base, arranging them in the compass directions they are traditionally associated with.
I would love the opportunity to do a large scale public art version of this that would incorporate real water, fire, earth and air in the composition. It could be lots of fun.
